Henty turns heads
Story and photos Freda Nicholls
The little town of Henty, in southern New South Wales, is a small unassuming place that traditionally holds one of the country’s biggest agricultural field days. The 1000-odd residents are accustomed to the annual swelling of their population, but may now need to prepare themselves for a ute influx as well.
Local organiser Murray Booth included a ute show as part of the recent Henty Agricultural Show, and drew people from as far away as Sorrento, Victoria, some 600 kilometres away. Murray was delighted with the turnout of 92 quality utes and their owners, who came to compete, socialise and have fun.
The deafening roar of engines vying for the loudest ute, spontaneous whip cracking displays, the bright flags picked up by the dry wind, and owners comparing their utes made for a great day.
