BRutes, the new V8 motor racing series for off-the-showroom-floor Holden Commodore and Ford Falcon utilities is rapidly gaining followers.

ImageThe juggernaut hit Ipswich, Queensland in July and this month (October) the BRutes will have their national TV debut at Bathurst, NSW. Nothing seems likely to stop Australia's newest racing sensation!

Utes, like their owners, come in all shapes, sizes and ages and none were so unique as those at the Ipswich Muster held in conjunction with the BRutes event.

Lost in the 50s duo John and Lyn Swanston of Warwick rocked 'n rolled into the muster with their cream 50s Holden FX.

Some were feral, like Greg Skinner and Shannon Schneider's 1969 HK Holden with the number plate Uterus, and some were so polished you could comb your hair or do your lippy in the mudguards, like Debbie Garioch and Alan Wallis's lovingly restored 1965 Falcon XP bearing the number plate 30'ISH.

Kylie Englebrecht and her brother, Joel, joined with Goondiwindi locals, Ron Ward and Marcia McNulty in Kylie's 1975 HJ Holden to watch the BRutes simply because "we're ute people".

Young Dylan Dixon guarded the beer in the 1984 Toyota Hi-Lux 4x4 owned by Ron Merritt, An Ipswich panel beater, while Ricky Prenzler, 24, and Mike Molloy, 17, also of Ipswich, used their 1997 VS Commodore ute hard-top to beat the sun.

Utes to their owners are their culture and their cult. They worship them, protect them, they're not afraid to use them and love to show them off. Story end
