Plucked utes of 'Goondi'

Kerry McGinnisA crowd of more than 3000 descended on Goondiwindi for the 2003 Plucked Duck Bachelor and Spinster Ball in September last year. Many of these revelers brought their utes, waiting in a four-kilometre line for the gates to open and the judging to begin in the ball's inaugural ute competition.

The Plucked Duck B&S, now an internationally recognised event, has raised more than $300,000 for local charities over the past 10 years. Organiser Tom Newton says the successful ute competition will again feature as a pre-ball activity at this year's event, to be held on the last weekend in September.
