BEAUT UTES
Plucked utes of 'Goondi'
Story and photos Danielle Lancaster
A crowd of more than 3000 descended on Goondiwindi for the 2003 Plucked Duck Bachelor and Spinster Ball in September last year. Many of these revelers brought their utes, waiting in a four-kilometre line for the gates to open and the judging to begin in the ball's inaugural ute competition.
The Plucked Duck B&S, now an internationally recognised event, has raised more than $300,000 for local charities over the past 10 years. Organiser Tom Newton says the successful ute competition will again feature as a pre-ball activity at this year's event, to be held on the last weekend in September.
