Family ties to the Gulf Country
Family ties to Mallapunyah. The Darcy family feels an almost spiritual attachment to Mallapunyah Station, a leading producer of quality cattle - and a scenic oasis, in the Northern Territory's Gulf Country.
Story and photos John Denman
In the mid-1920s, George and Elizabeth Darcy settled on some very choice land on the banks of Mallapunyah Creek in the Northern Territory. They called their place Mallapunyah Springs Station, and at the time it probably didn't occur to them that it would go on to become one of the top producers of quality cattle in the Territory. From that time began a family association with the land that continues today. It was here they built their homestead of local stone and limestone carted in from further out on the run.
