Whooping it up at the Cattleman's Cup
Story: Margot Seares
People came from Melbourne, The NSW Snowy Mountains and throughout the local district in January to celebrate horsemanship, buschcrafts and traditional bush culture in an area of the Victorian High Country devastated by bushfires only three years ago,
Bennison Plain, the venue for the Mountain Cattlemen's Association of Victoria Get-Together, is a 600-acre freehold parcel of cattle country surrounded by the Alpine National Park.
Highlights were the Cattlemen's Classic and Cattlemen's Cup horse races.
Other events included the Great Australian Packhorse Race, the Wally Ryder horse walking race, the Run-a-Muck Cup, Mulga Bill "triathlon", hay stacking, dog high jumping and whip cracking, while the Don Kneebone Heritage Award for original poetry, stories and song complemented the physical events.
