Campdraft action at Dungowan
Story
and photos Sue Jones
Dungowan Campdraft Committee hosted the Australian Bushmen's Campdraft and Rodeo National (ABCRA) Finals Campdraft on February 6-8. The little NSW township of Dungowan, 20 kilometres south-east of Tamworth, is set in the beautiful Dungowan Valley beside the Peel River. Recent rain had refreshed the landscape for the big annual campdraft event.
The
ABCRA season's top 25 point-scorers in the eight campdraft sections gathered
for a weekend of competition, vying for a total of $10,700 prizemoney. Cattle
were sourced locally from Colonial Agricultural Company's Goonoo Goonoo Station
and cattleman Mick Gooch. As 1500 head were needed for the three-day campdraft,
being able to access one line of cattle locally was a great thing for both
the committee and competitors.
