Dungowan Campdraft Committee hosted the Australian Bushmen's Campdraft and Rodeo National (ABCRA) Finals Campdraft on February 6-8. The little NSW township of Dungowan, 20 kilometres south-east of Tamworth, is set in the beautiful Dungowan Valley beside the Peel River. Recent rain had refreshed the landscape for the big annual campdraft event.

Campdraft action at DungowanThe ABCRA season's top 25 point-scorers in the eight campdraft sections gathered for a weekend of competition, vying for a total of $10,700 prizemoney. Cattle were sourced locally from Colonial Agricultural Company's Goonoo Goonoo Station and cattleman Mick Gooch. As 1500 head were needed for the three-day campdraft, being able to access one line of cattle locally was a great thing for both the committee and competitors.

The Dungowan committee ran their normal program as well as hosting the National Finals. The combined events attracted a huge number of entries, with 212 running in the maiden, 175 in the ladies, and 310 fronting the judge for the novice draft. The heat and dust didn't stop competitors or spectators from enjoying themselves. Story end
